Brenda Tharp

Brenda Tharp is an award-winning freelance photographer who specializes in location, nature and travel photography for a variety of clients. She has llama-trekked, sea-kayaked, flown in helicopters and hot-air balloons, cycled, and hiked to get her photographs. Those images have appeared on the pages of Alaska Airlines, Audubon, Northwest Traveler, Sierra, and Sunset magazines, along with many others. Her images have also been published in books by Chronicle, Michelin, National Geographic, Sierra Club, and others. Her commercial clients include those in the educational and travel markets, along with book publishers, corporations, design and advertising agencies.Her colorful and graphic photographs are regularly published in calendars and greetings cards for a variety of international companies including Chromazone, Museum Graphics, and Pomegranate Publishing.

Brenda has been featured in PhotoArt , Rangefinder , Studio Photography and Design, Outdoor Photographer, and CANON’s Insight magazine. She co-starred in two episodes of CANON’s Photo Safari television program.

An accomplished writer, Brenda wrote and photographed Creative Nature and Outdoor Photography, (Amphoto Books), and photographed the award-winning books Muir Woods: Redwood Refuge, and Marin Headlands: Portals of Time, (GGNPC). She has written photography articles for several outdoor photography magazines and online e-zines, including Outdoor Photographer, Photo Migrations, Apogee, and TakeGreatPictures.com.

Her fine art images are in private collections across the United States, and her commercial images are represented by Danita Delimont Stock, and Getty Images.

Brenda conducts lectures on photography throughout the United States and has spoken to thousands of people across the country, presenting inspirational programs for a variety of audiences, including The Mountaineers Club, American Society of Media Photographers, St. Louis Camera Club, Northwest Council of Camera Clubs, Century Club, and the Photo Plus Expo West.

Highly regarded as an instructor, she teaches workshops through her own company and through Maine Media Workshops, Mountain Light, and Rocky Mountain School of Photography, She also leads international photography workshops and tours. When not on the road, she resides in Marin County, California with her partner Jed, and their dog, Mocha.
