EJ Peiker is a professional freelance Nature Photographer. He was born in 1960 in Augsburg, Germany in the German state of Bavaria near the Alps. His family moved to Mansfield, Ohio, in 1969 right before his 9th birthday. He became a citizen of the United States of America in 1975 and lived in Ohio until 1979 when he began attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

His original goal was to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs but after his distance vision deteriorated late in high school, it precluded him from becoming an Air Force Pilot, EJ followed plan B which was set in motion when he inherited his grandfathers electronics workbench several years earlier. At Purdue, EJ earned a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and also completed graduate studies in Microelectronics and Semiconductor Physics. For nearly 27 years, he worked for the Intel Corporation in California, New Mexico, Oregon, and Arizona where EJ was engaged in the production of the microprocessors, chip-sets, and communication chips that power modern Personal Computers, Workstations, File Servers, Super Computers and the Internet.

Since 1994, EJ has lived in the south-central Arizona city of Chandler, a suburb southeast of Phoenix in the Sonoran Desert. He has two sons, Nicholas (20) and Gregory (15). Nick is currently attending Arizona State University in Tempe and is in the W.P. Carey Finance program. Greg is in High School. EJ has formally studied photography at the University of New Mexico, the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, and participated in photography seminars and workshops led by several renowned photographers including John Shaw, Arthur Morris, John and Barbara Gerlach, Charles Glatzer and the Nikon Corporation.

Carl Donohue grew up in rural Australia and left his small hometown of Bathurst when he was 21. He went to Atlanta, GA, USA, to study guitar. He is the author/photographer of over 30 books, as well as a well-known speaker and workshop leader. He was the long-time editor of the prestigious Outdoor Photographer magazine and helped start PCPhoto (Digital Photo). Presently he is editor-at-large for Outdoor Photographer. Bull Schmitt is the Director and Lead Instructor of LIGHT Photographic Workshops in Los Osos, California. Although new to the industry, Hal instructs all levels of photography, Lightroom, and Photoshop as if he’d been shooting for decades. His workshops and photo tours are recognized around the world as incredible learning experiences.

Christopher Dodds is a full-time freelance nature photographer, teacher and lecturer specializing in birds. Chris first discovered his love of the great Canadian outdoors during family and boy scout camping, and canoe and backpacking trips, after moving to Canada from England when he was eight. By the time he was fourteen, Chris thrilled at freezing fleeting glimpses of birds and the resulting ability to study every detail of their intricate beauty. Chris’ passion for photography has taken several paths through the years; photojournalism, studio portraiture, commercial and wedding photography to name just a few. He apprenticed in color and black and white chemical darkrooms, but today embraces the computerized, digital work-flow. Chris is passionate about capturing images of nature in an artistic, yet technically perfect, manner.

Greg Downing is a professional nature photographer specializing in birds. He has been traveling the world teaching professional and amateur photographers for more than a decade hosting workshops and seminars.

EJ Peiker is a professional freelance Nature Photographer. He was born in 1960 in Augsburg, Germany in the German state of Bavaria near the Alps. His family moved to Mansfield, Ohio, in 1969 right before his 9th birthday. He became a citizen of the United States of America in 1975 and lived in Ohio until 1979 when he began attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

His original goal was to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs but after his distance vision deteriorated late in high school, it precluded him from becoming an Air Force Pilot, EJ followed plan B which was set in motion when he inherited his grandfathers electronics workbench several years earlier. At Purdue, EJ earned a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and also completed graduate studies in Microelectronics and Semiconductor Physics. For nearly 27 years, he worked for the Intel Corporation in California, New Mexico, Oregon, and Arizona where EJ was engaged in the production of the microprocessors, chip-sets, and communication chips that power modern Personal Computers, Workstations, File Servers, Super Computers and the Internet.

Since 1994, EJ has lived in the south-central Arizona city of Chandler, a suburb southeast of Phoenix in the Sonoran Desert. He has two sons, Nicholas (20) and Gregory (15). Nick is currently attending Arizona State University in Tempe and is in the W.P. Carey Finance program. Greg is in High School. EJ has formally studied photography at the University of New Mexico, the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, and participated in photography seminars and workshops led by several renowned photographers including John Shaw, Arthur Morris, John and Barbara Gerlach, Charles Glatzer and the Nikon Corporation.

Greg Downing is a professional nature photographer specializing in birds. He has been traveling the world teaching professional and amateur photographers for more than a decade hosting workshops and seminars.

EJ Peiker is a professional freelance Nature Photographer. He was born in 1960 in Augsburg, Germany in the German state of Bavaria near the Alps.  His family moved to Mansfield, Ohio, in 1969 right before his 9th birthday.  He became a citizen of the United States of America in 1975 and lived in Ohio until 1979 when he began attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

His original goal was to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs but after his distance vision deteriorated late in high school, it precluded him from becoming an Air Force Pilot, EJ followed plan B which was set in motion when he inherited his grandfathers electronics workbench several years earlier.  At Purdue, EJ earned a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and also completed graduate studies in Microelectronics and Semiconductor Physics.  For nearly 27 years, he worked for the Intel Corporation in California, New Mexico, Oregon, and Arizona where EJ was engaged in the production of the microprocessors, chip-sets, and communication chips that power modern Personal Computers, Workstations, File Servers, Super Computers and the Internet.

Since 1994, EJ has lived in the south-central Arizona city of Chandler, a suburb southeast of Phoenix in the Sonoran Desert.  He has two sons, Nicholas (20) and Gregory (15). Nick is currently attending Arizona State University in Tempe and is in the W.P. Carey Finance program.  Greg is in High School.  EJ has formally studied photography at the University of New Mexico, the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, and participated in photography seminars and workshops led by several renowned photographers including John Shaw, Arthur Morris, John and Barbara Gerlach, Charles Glatzer and the Nikon Corporation.

This is a Quick Hit Podcast short. Today we’re going to talk to Photographer Alexx Henry. Alexx is best known for his celebrity portraiture. This is a Quick Hit Podcast short and we’re going to talk to Tom Guilmette. Tom works in the television and film arena. A major turning point in his television life occurred when Sony released an inexpensive High Definition camera that used the newly developed HDV format. For the first time, Tom was able to shoot in 1080i and edit video at full 1440 × 1080 resolution.

Tom says: This is my first film shot with the Canon 5DmkII digital SLR. This camera is simply amazing and it is really changing the “film-look for video” game.

The idea for this film came to me a few days ago. I wanted to shoot in an old, abandoned house with no electricity. My goal was to light the entire film with available light and light from a single oil lamp. The low light capability of this camera is unlike anything I have ever used before. This camera is amazing when shooting with the light from a single flame.

I called my friend, Adam, and asked him if he would meet me at on old vacant farm house in Attleboro, Massachusetts so that we could shoot a film. We brought a few props, like the old tin, oil lamp and photograph for the film and shot non-stop from 11am to 5pm. We started outside in the rain and then moved into the dank dirt-floor basement. Later in the afternoon, we shot upstairs in the decaying house.

All sound was recorded separately with the Zoom h4 stereo recorder with the built in microphones. I used Vinten tripods, and especially loved my new Vinten baby legs when shooting with the Vision 3 (spring#1) to get the low angles.
