LexJet’s Sunset Photo Metallic Paper Is a Breatkthrough for Inkjet Photo Printing

by Dave Warner on February 19, 2010

Until now, you had to send your images to a lab or have your own photo-processor if you wanted to output some of your best images on metallic photo paper. That will no longer be necessary, thanks to the new LexJet Sunset Metallic Photo Paper that is expected to be available in April.

With this breakthrough inkjet photo paper, you can create stunningly beautiful wedding photographs, exhibition prints, and commercial displays. Sunset Metallic Photo Paper can add dimensionality, depth, and richness to photographs, and produce fleshtones that are flattering, but natural-looking. It produces prints that look far superior to anything your customers can produce for themselves.

What makes the prints look so distinctive is a combination of two things: a subtle silver metallic shimmer on the paper itself, and the high-gloss finish of the inkjet coating.

The 10-mil, 255g photo paper features an instant-dry, scratch-resistant surface that makes it practical for use in busy photo studios.

“LexJet customers have been asking for a inkjet-printable metallic photo paper for years. So we have invested considerable time and effort in researching possible solutions,” said product manager Alex Ried. “Until recently, we weren’t totally confident that we could deliver the type of top-quality Sunset paper that LexJet customers expect. But we are now.”

LexJet is now taking backorders on this product. Should you be interested and you have not already ordered, their first shipment of the product will be first come first served, and they expect a limited supply, especially with backorders already secured. Here are the sizes that will be available:

· 8.5×11 50 sheets
· 13×19 50 sheets

    Garry,

I don’t think that photos of photos printed on the paper would really show how it looks. Best thing to do is see if the manufacturer (Lesjet.com) has some examples on their website. I know that I got a couple of sample pieces and printed off an 8×10 image. It had a VERY different look to it – one that is hard to describe. Metallic is just the best description – think of a sheet of shiny aluminum and then try to envision what an image would look like printed on it. You’d have this very reflective shiny look to your image – very different than a standard ‘gloss’ look.
