Light and Land, Landscapes in the Digital Darkroom by Michael Frye is the newest ebook to the Craft & Vision library. Michael, a photographer based on the doorstep of Yosemite Nation Park, knows his stuff about inspired landscapes and the post-processing techniques that make his vision a reality. Light and Land is written specifically for people with an interest in landscapes and who want to clarify their own unique vision. Landscape work, like other specific genres, has its own challenges with respect to the digital darkroom and this ebook will be of use to anyone wanting to take their post-processing to the next level. With equal parts inspiration and instruction Michael goes step-by-step through the aesthetic judgments behind each decision, and he unpacks the principles behind the landscape-specific considerations. Michael walks you through the Lightroom-based development of 5 different images, discussing the hows and whys of each one. The principles apply equally for Lightroom as well as Aperture or Photoshop. Light and Land is crammed full of content and is available now as a downloadable PDF for just $5USD. [click to continue…]

LensFlareLive is a show created and brought to you by Dave Warner. In this week’s episode, panelists Juan Pons, Rob Sheppard and Hal Schmitt discuss landscape photography and other topics. In addition, they answer questions that came in via email, Twitter and from the live listening audience.

As a nature and wildlife photographer, Juan Pons is a strong supporter of wildlife and natural habitat conservation and is a member of several conservation organizations. Juan, his wife Abby, and their son Nathaniel live in North Carolina. Although much of his photography is focused on native wildlife in North Carolina, Juan and his family also travel frequently to other regions of interest, such as Yellowstone National Park, Puerto Rico, New England, and the Southwestern states. Juan never ceases to be amazed by the natural subjects he photographs and hopes that sharing his photographs will inspire others to appreciate and respect natural life.

Rob Sheppard is a naturalist and nature photographer and videographer who says his favorite location is the one he is in at any time. Presently, he is spending a lot of time in the chaparral of Southern California and says that the chaparral is one of the wildest and least photographed ecosystems in the country. He is the author/photographer of over 30 books, as well as a well-known speaker and workshop leader. He was the long-time editor of the prestigious Outdoor Photographer magazine and helped start PCPhoto (Digital Photo). Presently he is editor-at-large for Outdoor Photographer. He does workshops around the country with Great American Photography Workshops, plus he does workshops at Light Photographic Workshops.

Bull Schmitt is the Director and Lead Instructor of LIGHT Photographic Workshops in Los Osos, California. Although new to the industry, Hal instructs all levels of photography, Lightroom, and Photoshop as if he’d been shooting for decades. His workshops and photo tours are recognized around the world as incredible learning experiences.

Many are surprised that someone so new to the photographic industry delivers such effective (some would even say “life changing”) training. What most do not know is although Hal first picked up a DSLR two years ago he spent six years as one of the most respected and sought after instructors in the world.
