LensFlare 35 is a weekly show brought to you by Dave Warner. In this week’s episode, Dave interviews Photojournalist Ami Vitale. Best known for her cultural documentation, Ami has received recognition from World Press Photos, Photographer of the Year International, The Lucie Awards and the South Asian Journalists Association, which presented her with the Daniel Pearl Award for outstanding reporting. She has been named Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association, and Photo District News recognized her as one of 30 image makers of the future.
Now based in Miami, Florida, Ami is a contract photographer with National Geographic Magazine and Senior Producer for the Knight Center for International Media.
In this episode, Ami talks about why she became a photojournalist, what caused her to almost quit, the most disturbing conflicts she’s covered, images that have had the greatest impact on her life, the introduction of HD DSLR’s and what that means for photojournalists, specialized gear she recommends and much more.
