by Dave Warner on October 15, 2025

This is a Quick Hit Thursday Podcast short and we’re going to talk to Steve Weiss of Zacuto – makers of Custom Camera Packages & Zacuto Brand Accessories for both video and DSLR cameras that have video capability.

Zacuto is a one-stop-shop for customized camera packages. This includes the latest technology in high definition, where their trademark camera packages are designed by Zacuto staff members who have over 45 years of combined film and video experience. Zacuto USA products are entirely designed and manufactured by Zacuto and made in the USA, with input from staff and customers. They have a lifetime warranty as well.

In this interview, we go over fusion - the melding of video into still cameras. What are the differences for still shooters, what added skills do we need, the actual production of a video, new hardware that may be required, software, and Webisodic programming - what it is, and what new markets are opening for photographers who grab this new medium by the horns!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for bringing us photographers quality content in every episode of your podcast., great interviews with Great Photographers. That’s to say until you interviewed Steve Weiss (I will not even mention the brand to avoid giving him free advertisement).

Photography and Video technologies are getting closer every day and some people will need to learn new skills either in photography or videography in order to be more competitive in this new market.

Steve actually sounded pedantic and almost offensive by constantly using the phrase: “…photographers don’t understand…” this or that, I felt he thinks highly about videographers and the opposite about us photographers. Also, the fact that this interview was focused in self promotion (the company) it made the whole episode worthless.

He also said that for the small video in front of their web site they used 16 people! I believe that a bit of a exaggeration, the actors in those small videos were not even wearing professional make up. Yes, the lighting was okay but I’m sure you can produce a better quality video with 4 to 5 people. What a bunch of BS from this guy!

Please continue to provide high quality interviews and try to avoid people like this who are motivated solely by their marketing agenda.

Hey Martin - thank you for your comments! On the Thursday podcasts, I try to pick companies that have products for DSLR’s and let them sell their ’stuff’ as much as they like. But, my intent is to draw attention to those items, help educate my audience, and then maybe see if there is a new market that I can help us as photographers think about and develop. I approached them about the interview, and I made up the questions, so if it became self-serving for Zacuto, then it would be my fault. But, if you look at my notes - from my standpoint, I accomplished what I set out to do! From Steve’s point, I think he felt that he was saying good things about photographers that would get him in trouble with the videographers!

Either way, I value your opinion and hope you continue to listen to the shows!
